Spring is almost here and we are busy getting ready for the big warm up! Right now you can find us at local home shows and doing seminars on the joys of owning a water feature and how to own your own watery paradise. When we're not busy spreading the word about the hidden joys of a pond, we are installing them at homes and businesses and doing maintenance and clean-outs at the many ponds we have already put in. So check our calendar of events and our Web site for more information about what we've been up to and where, and how, you can see us!
No, I'm not talking algae. I am talking about the environment. Water features are a great way to get in touch with the environment, and when you are more in touch with the environment, you are more likely to act in an environmentally conscious way. One way you can do that is to consider composting. Many municipalities now offer sites for you to drop off garbage that can become a rich additive to your garden. For more information on composting check out the Environmental Protection Agency's Web site.
As the weather warms up, our flowers, shrubs, and trees, will start to wake up and Spring cleaning is around the corner! Now is a great time to start cutting back some of last year's perennials, trimming trees and shrubs that have overgrown their space, and planning for new additions. Some of your trimmings might be candidates for composting and make great additions to your garden later! Check your mulch levels to make sure roots are well covered and add your fertilizers and weed preventers as you go. If you need to add some zest, look for some annuals that are ready for your garden now and can tolerate March temperatures. Then when it's all done, sit back and relax, and think of the lazy summer days that will soon be here!
If you have been experiencing the joys of Winter (snow and ice) you may have looked at your pond as if it's frozen in time, beautiful and waiting to burst to life in Spring. But while it's been frozen on the outside, life has continued on the inside! Fish are still producing waste and plants are still decomposing and it's all just waiting for the warm weather to come to life too. Not every pond needs a full clean out but the best way to be sure is to contact us . We will help you assess your water feature and determine how much, if any, cleaning it needs, and what products will help get your feature looking its best in the warm weather. For more information on water feature maintenance, visit our site or the Aquascape site.
